It’s Hot Outside Today
Pugs and hot weather don’t mix. I should know. I live in Arizona, one of the hottest places in the U.S. I love it outside UNTIL the temperatures reach about 82 degrees. Pugs and heat are a tough combination. Let me tell you why.
First of all, I happen to have a very short snout. That means that I can’t cool the air coming into my nostrils like other dogs can. There’s no time for it to cool. That hot air gets sucked into my little pug lungs and it is hot! My mom makes sure that I don’t stay outside for more than 15 minutes at a time when it gets hot out. If I’m in the shade and have plenty of ice cold water with ice cubes in it, I can stay out longer. I also have a really nice swimming pool to cool off in (if I liked to swim).
I love Arizona but I know that it’s hard to breath the hot air. I also know that the sidewalks and patio get very, very hot here. Sometimes I have to piddle. My mom laughs sometimes because I have to raise my paws high in the air to keep them from getting too hot on the pavement. In my mind I am saying “oouch, oouch, oouch.” Sometimes Mom will pick me up and carry me cuz she loves me so much and understands how the heat affects me.
It may be hot today but it’ll get even hotter in the coming months. I’ll be well taken care of though!
